One of the cool things in life that I had always admired is the idea of coworking spaces. In short, a coworking space is shared office space where individuals come together to work on their own individual projects. For instance, a person starting a business would find value in using a coworking space. It’s like going to a company office with Wi-Fi, printers meeting rooms and tons of coffee.
So who goes to these coworking spaces? Individuals starting up or running a company of one, freelancers hired to do specific tasks for others, writers, web developers, programmers, and students working on projects.
It gives individuals who work alone a sense of community. Yes, about 95 percent could stay home and perform the same tasks, but that can make an individual feel isolated and lonely. I do about 98 percent of my work from home, but every once in a while, I like to head to a coworking space for a change of scenery.
I have always admired individuals who use coworking spaces because they offer a sense of independence and freedom of choice. To me, it says, “I don’t work for the Man, I work for myself”. Which is what most people think but don’t say when working for a standard company. Regardless of how the average human resources department attempts to rally the troops with their all for one and one for all, nobody really believes it. Companies really don’t care about individual workers, and workers really don’t care about the company. For all concerned, it’s all about the profits and the paycheck.
The only way to break this cycle is to start your own company or freelance your talents, and the coworking space provides an environment for that.
During COVID, many offices closed, and workers were delegated to work from home. After COVID ended, many did not want to return to the office because they enjoyed the sense of independence that working from home gave them.
Google “coworking places” in exotic places like Bali, Thailand, and, yes, even here in the Philippines, and you’ll see people working and happy. Coworking space allows people to earn money anywhere in the world, so the places one could travel to are unlimited.
Another great thing about coworking is that you can sometimes connect with others who perform tasks you are not trained for, which benefits you and your business. Maybe you are working on a blog and aren’t sure how to add a photo to the post; chances are, there is somebody willing to help you.
